The Children's Theatre Company (CTC) is recognized as North America's flagship theatre for young people and families as well as a major cultural and artistic resource in Minnesota. Founded in 1965, CTC has set a standard for excellence in theatre for young people, the creation of new work, and arts education. CTC is also dedicated to education and community partnerships and building profound relationships with teachers, schools and our community. CTC is located on a campus in South Minneapolis along with the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. It operates in a 60,000 square foot facility built in 1974 and has a 746-seat performance space. Since moving to its current home, over six million children and families have seen CTC productions. In the 2002-2003 season, nearly two-thirds of the public performances were sold-out. Annually, more than 283,000 people enjoy over 390 performances.
Trizart Alliance’s theatre consultation services were retained for this expansion project which includes a new 288-seat theatre, programmed specifically for teenagers and pre-schoolers as well as dedicated classroom and rehearsal space. The expansion and renovation was the first for CTC’s facility since it was built in 1974. CTC no longer has to turn away hundreds of children from education programs due to lack of adequate space. Most of all, the expansion allows CTC to increase its focus on education and its reach into Greater Minnesota, both of which are already priorities.
